One to Watch: Kristina Kurkina

I recently had the pleasure of getting to know the work of recent design graduate, Kristina Kurkina. I borrowed one of her jackets from her debut collection ‘Krsitina Kurkina Collection No 1′ and enjoyed getting an up close and personal feel of the technology and craftsmanship that went it to this fabulous garment.
Krisitna’s love of merging old artisan aesthetics with the latest technology and fusing textures of vintage fabrics, traditional wools and three-dimensionally printed rubber is evident in this high collared cropped jacket. The feel of it you would think is quite heavy and uncomfortable, but it is rather the opposite. It has a brilliant structure to it which makes it easy to wear, as it sits perfectly across your shoulders and around your neck. Not once did I feel as though I was wearing something so structured.
The three dimensional rubber has to be one of my favourite aspects of this jacket. It creates something unique to the overall piece and through the lens especially, is brilliant to capture.
